The design of these homes resulted from the collaboration between builder, homeowner and architect. They are semi-custom because they have their root design in a builder's stock plan chosen by the homeowner but are then customized and architecturally upgraded to meet the needs and desires of the homeowner. With these homes, a balance between scholarly architectural styles and the realities of homebuilding economies is struck. The result is tasteful, architecturally balanced (but eclectic) designs avoiding "kitsch" or "pastiche".
